Editing and Placements
Part of Editing UGC for different placements
Creating shorter edits from a single approved video
Turn one approved UGC video into shorter cuts while keeping the product action, qualifications and permissions intact.
Build a shorter edit around one complete point from the approved video. Keep the action that supports it and any condition needed to understand it. Approval of the longer cut does not establish that every shortened version says the same thing; check the cut's meaning.
Identify what the short version must answer
Write down the approved video's central buyer question. Mark the minimum sequence that answers it: the situation, product action, visible result and any qualification. The short version can lose repeated introductions or secondary features, but it still needs context for its remaining claim.
Plan the cut before editing. For each removal, ask whether a first-time viewer would know which product is shown, what the creator did and under what conditions.
If removing a setup step makes a result look immediate, keep that step or state the elapsed process accurately. If a spoken sentence depends on a removed shot, revise the sentence within the approved meaning or retain the shot.
Give each version a purpose
A brief feed cut may focus on the product action. A longer placement may have room for the creator's reason and a fuller demonstration. Choose the point first, then check the actual campaign format's duration and delivery rules.
| Cut | Keep | Possible removal |
|---|---|---|
| Demonstration | Product identity, essential action and result | Repeated introductions |
| Objection answer | The concern, relevant evidence and limitation | Unrelated features |
| Reminder | Recognisable product and one supported point | Secondary explanation |
These are editing options, not performance predictions. Do not splice separated remarks into a stronger testimonial.

Recheck the new impression
Read the revised speech, captions and on-screen text against the short cut. Check whether a product variant, wait time, accessory or limitation has disappeared. The ACCC says businesses should avoid false or misleading claims on social media and be able to back up claims they make there; assess the shortened version on its own impression.
Confirm that the permission record covers the edit, channel and period of use. A copyright licence can grant specified uses. Save each export under a distinct identifier, note what changed and review the actual file on a phone. Use a destination preview where available, then record approval for that specific version.
