Part of Reviewing UGC quality before acceptance

Checking UGC sound, lighting and product visibility

Check a delivered UGC video’s speech, light and product action, then describe the exact defect and a feasible correction.

Play the complete delivered UGC export. Check whether viewers can hear the explanation, identify the product and see the action required by the brief.

Judge each fault in the intended viewing context. A polished opening frame does not establish that the whole video is usable.

Listen through the message

Play the video at normal speed. Note the moment where traffic, music, echo, handling noise or a level change masks information needed to understand the demonstration. Listen across cuts as well as during the main speech.

Identify what an unclear line carries. A decorative remark may be removable. A setup instruction or product condition may need a clean alternate take, a new recording or a checked voiceover.

Captions should convey speech and meaningful sound accurately. They do not repair a soundtrack that says something contradictory. Review automatic transcription before use.

Apply any audio requirements agreed in the order or required by the destination. Do not impose a universal loudness number without a defined placement and production scope.

Inspect light during the action

Pause when the product is introduced, handled and shown after use. Can viewers distinguish its shape, colour and relevant detail? Look for a bright background that silhouettes the item, glare over a control, missed focus or lighting that makes a variant look unlike the item offered.

Judge whether the footage still gives an accurate impression. A darker scene may suit the concept if the required detail remains visible.

Brightening an export may not recover detail absent from the recording. Check another supplied take before assuming new filming is needed.

Follow the product

Track the item through the full sequence. It need not fill every frame, but viewers should be able to identify the correct model and see the action that supports the message. A cut at the moment a lid closes or a connector engages may leave the central question unanswered even when the surrounding shots are sharp.

If the asset is intended for a phone placement, inspect the exported picture at phone size. Check whether text covers the detail it explains.

Where an actual crop or placement preview is available, inspect that too. A source file alone cannot show what the proposed crop will retain.

Key UGC Verification Metrics

Product visibility at phone size
Critical for mobile placements; ensure key features remain legible
Text coverage of product result
Avoid obstructing visual proof of action; adjust position or timing if needed
Source file vs. crop preview
A source file alone cannot confirm what a proposed crop retains

Describe the smallest viable repair

FindingCheck before requesting filmingPossible response
One essential sentence is maskedIs there a clean alternate take or separate voice track?Replace or record the line, then review the full mix.
Glare hides a required detailDoes another supplied angle show it?Substitute the shot if the meaning remains accurate.
The required action leaves the frameDoes source footage contain a wider view?Reframe it or request a focused pickup shot.
Text covers the resultCan its position or timing change?Correct the export and check it again.

These are options, not promises that editing can restore missing information. If no recording shows an essential action, new footage may be necessary. The agreement determines how that work is handled.

Replay the complete corrected export so sound, picture and text still give the same accurate product impression.
